Validation and entitlement

Elon Musk is a petty and resentful character, driven by the need for validation in the shape of worship from followers. He has some... maximal views about things  because he can't take in that you can't manipulate the markets the way you manipulate your worshipers. He isn't the world's richest person because he is so smart and brave, but because he was born in the right place, and the stars aligned for him in the form of NASA and Covid relief money. And the biggest star that aligned for him is that many, many people are not sophisticated enough: they see a stunt, they buy TSLA, Dogecoing, etc. And repeat. By the way, he is not the Tesla owner, he is not even one of the founders, he is just a large share holder (about 17%) who got in early.

Shortly after announcing he is not taking a seat in the Twitter board after all, Elon Musk tweeted a couple of new "polls" and deleted it later:

Worth noting that Twitter would read Titter after that. One can almost visualize the petty, resentful, extremist character vowing to destroy the toy he couldn't twist to favor him.

A character like that has the plebiscite as his weapon. And we're in a time and age when characters like that get elected/worshiped, and do really really bad things, we've seen that many times in history. They do it out of pettiness and resent, out of validation and entitlement.

In the words of Ray Dalio: "Populists are not compromisers—they are win-at-all-cost people—so when they grow in power at the expense of the moderates who are inclined to compromise, the risks to the rule of law and the democratic system increase."
